(kē″mō-em″bŏ-lĭ-zā′shŏn′) [ chemo- + embolization] A treatment for a solid tumor, e.g., a malignant mass in the liver, in which a catheter is advanced through the major artery that supplies blood to the tumor, thereby administering anticancer drugs directly to the tumor. The procedure delivers chemotherapy directly into the target tissue.
