Combat Unit

 

a part of the crew on a warship in charge of combat and technical equipment for a particular type of weaponry or equipment. On large ships there may be up to five combat units, which are subdivided into squadrons, groups (batteries), and squads; they are designated by number: 1st, navigation; 2nd, artillery; 3rd, mine-torpedo; 4th, communications; and 5th, electromechanics. Until 1932 the crews on Soviet ships were divided into companies.
