Location:In Calvert County, 14 miles south of Prince Frederick on MD routes 2 and 4.
Facilities:6 youth group camping areas (open Apr 24-Oct 30), picnic tables, pavilion, playground (é), foot trails (13 miles).
Activities:Youth group camping, fishing, hiking, bicycling (on service road only), hunting.
Special Features:Calvert Cliffs, which dominate the shoreline of Chesapeake Bay for 30miles in Calvert County, were formed over 15 million years ago, whenall of southern Maryland was covered by a shallow sea. More than 600species of fossils have been identified from these cliffs, with theteeth of various species of shark the most abundant. Visitors may huntfor fossils on the open beach area and keep what they find, but accessto the cliffs is not permitted due to their constant erosion.
