Ekaterinoslav Cossack Host

 

(or corps), formed in 1787 from Bug Cossack regiments and peasants who had settled in Ekaterinoslav Province. The population of the Ekaterinoslav Cossack Host was more than 50,000 persons in 1788, with a fighting complement of up to 10,000. It participated in the Russo-Turkish War of 1787–91 and distinguished itself in the taking of Akkerman, Kiliia, and Izmail. In 1796 it was disbanded. In 1802 the cossack population of the host was resettled in the Kuban’ and later formed the basis of the Caucasus Regiment of the Kuban’ Cossack Army.
