Coronation Gulf
Coronation Gulf
a gulf in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. It is bounded by the coast of the continent on the south and west and by the southern coast of Victoria Island on the north. Dease Strait and Dolphin and Union Strait connect Coronation Gulf with Queen Maud Gulf on the east and Amundsen Gulf on the west, respectively. The southern coast of the gulf is high and rocky; the northwestern is low-lying and swampy. Coronation Gulf is 14–180 m deep and has many small islands. The Coppermine and Rae rivers empty into it. The gulf is covered with ice from September to the end of June.
