Chełm Województwo

 

an administrative and territorial unit in eastern Poland, in the Bug River basin. Formed in 1975, Chełm Województwo has an area of 3,900 sq km. In 1975 the population was 221,000, of which 33 percent was urban. The administrative center is the city of Chełm. Agriculture includes swine raising and the raising of livestock for meat and dairy products. The principal crops are grains (chiefly wheat), sugar beets, and potatoes. Industries include food processing, machine building, and the production of cement.
