Asymptomatic Cardiac Ischemia Pilot Study. A trial comparing outcomes of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTCA), using 3 therapeutic strategies for reducing myocardial ischaemia during exercise testing.Primary endpoint Suppression of ischaemia on 48-hour Holter at 12 weeks
Conclusion EKG ischaemia was no longer present in 39% of those with the angina-guided strategy, 41% of those with the ischaemia-guided strategy and 55% of those with the revascularisation strategy; despite more severe coronary disease and more ischaemic episodes at baseline, ischaemia was lower in CABG patients than in PTCA patients, a finding maintained at 1 year.
