Callimico

Callimico

a genus of New World monkeys. Body length, 18–25 cm; tail length, 25-32 cm. The animal dwells in the Amazon Basin. The genus has one species, Callimico goeldii, and occupies an intermediary place between the families Callithricidae (monkeys with claws on the fingers) and Cebidae (monkeys with prehensile tails). Members of the genus Callimico have claws on their extremities, as do members of the family Callithricidae. They have three molars, as do members of the family Cebidae (there are only two in Callithricidae). Some zoologists classify Callimico as an independent family.
