A peripheral connection with a computer which allows the user to both access information as well as input data and change orders.
This is an primitive term for a component of pre-Cambrian legacy information systems, in which a mainframe computer connected to two types of peripheral computers—dummy terminals, from which data could be obtained but not input, and interactive computers, which allowed I/O.
