amphotericin B [am″fo-ter´ĭ-sin] an antifungal agent and antibiotic used to treat deep-seated fungal infections, especially histoplasmosis, and also to treat cutaneous and mucocutaneous candidiasis. It may be applied topically or administered intravenously or by intracavitary instillation. Anorexia, chills, fever, and headache may occur as side effects.
