Dentils

(also denticles), a row of small, ornamental rectangular projections on the cornices of the Ionic and Corinthian orders and of one variant of the Roman Doric order. The prototypes of dentils were the small, closely set wooden beam ends of the flat pisé ceiling in the architecture of Ionia.
