Fofonoff, Nicholas Paul

Fofonoff, Nicholas Paul

(1929– ) oceanographer; born in Queenstown, Alberta, Canada. He was a scientist at the Pacific Oceanographic Group (Canada) (1954–62) before coming to the U.S.A. to join the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (1962). He was concurrently a professor at Harvard (1968–86). He made major contributions to the fluid dynamics of ocean circulation.
