Coring Tool

 

a device for taking rock samples from the face or walls of a drill hole. Rotary, hammer, or forced face coring tools are used for investigating the physicomechanical properties of the foundation bedrock of engineering structures (the last type is used in soft rock and is driven in by pressure). When drilling exploratory holes for hard minerals, lateral coring tools (with which samples are scraped or drilled from the walls of the hole) or explosive tools are used. The use of the lateral coring tools permits the partial replacement of core drilling by more efficient solid drilling.
