Density of Fire

Density of Fire

(1) In artillery, the number of shells fired per minute per 100 m of target length or per hectare of an area being shelled if fire is being waged by sector.

(2) In small-arms fire, the number of bullets fired per minute per meter on a given line by all types of weapons of a subunit. The density of fire depends on the number of weapons, their type, and their usable rate of fire. The use of automatic weapons, which have high rates of fire, increases density of fire.
