(kō'reg'yū-lā-tŏrz), Nuclear proteins that participate in the regulation of transcription of genes that are responsive to ligand-dependent transcription factors. Distinguished loosely into coactivators or corepressors depending on the direction of coregulation. Defective coregulators have been associated with human disease.
