Feast of Trumpets

Trumpets, Feast of

September; Tishri 1The first day of Tishri, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar, has religious significance for Jewish people and two sects of Christianity: Seventh-Day Adventists and the United Church of God. The day has different meanings for these groups. Jewish people celebrate the beginning of Tishri, which falls sometime between September and October, as Rosh Hashanah. The Christian group knows the holiday as the Feast of Trumpets. The day's significance is revealed in the biblical book of Revelation, in which a prophecy states that a seventh or "last" trumpet will announce the second coming of Jesus Christ, who will deliver the followers of God in heaven.
The Feast of Trumpets is the fourth of the seven Holy Days whose observance is central to the faith of the United Church of God. These days prefigure God's plan for creation, which he has revealed in the context of a spiritual harvest. The Days, also known as Feasts, are explained in detail in the Book of Leviticus, which recounts God's instructions to Moses about how to celebrate the feasts.
