Cordillera Vilcabamba

 

a mountain range in south-eastern Peru, situated between the Urubamba (Ucayali system) and Apurímac rivers. It is 250 km long. Elevations increase from north to south, rising in Mount Salcantay to 6,271 m. It is composed of Precambrian and Paleozoic rock. There are Mesozoic-Cenozoic intrusions in the region of greatest uplifts. In the north and central parts the slopes are covered with mountain evergreen forests and in the south with dry scrub vegetation.
