Dzhumgaltau Basin

 

an intermontane basin of the Tien-Shan, in the Kirghiz SSR. The basin is west of Lake Issyk-Kul’ at an altitude of 1,500 to 2,000-2,500 m; its northern border is the Dzhumgaltau Range and its southern border is the Moldotau Range. It is approximately 70 km long and 30 km wide. Flora is characteristic of desert and dry steppes, including wormwood, prostrate summer cypress, winterfat, Ephedra, andCaragana (pea tree). There is sheep herding.
