calcific body

calcific body

An artefact seen in tissue sections, caused by dystrophic calcification and often found within necrosis, as in fibrocaseous nodules of the lungs of various aetiologies—e.g., granulomatous processes or malignancy. The hyphae-like elements are the result of calcification of collagen fibres, which may fragment horizontally, resulting in a septum-like appearance.
