acidophilic body
acidophilic body
Any densely acidophilic, eosinophilic (i.e., pink), often 5–15 µm-diameter mass seen by light microscopy with an H&E stain. Acidophilic bodies may correspond to apoptotic cells, which have undergone programmed cell deathKidney
A rounded intranuclear and intracytoplasmic inclusion with ragged edges composed of protein, lead and occasionally iron, seen in the renal tubular cells and hepatocytes of those with chronic lead exposure, often accompanied by aminoaciduria and glycosuria.
Liver
An individual condensed and necrotic hepatocyte with dense pink cytoplasm and a pyknotic nucleus, often multiple with periportal distribution, which is partially surrounded by a “round-cell” infiltrate of plasma cells and lymphocytes, a finding typical of acute viral hepatitis.
Ovary
A dense, pink, rounded, PAS-positive 2-8 µm-diameter mass, (also known as a hyaline globule), which is composed of basement membrane material and seen intra- and extracellularly in ovarian endodermal sinus tumour.
