Acid Loading Test

A clinical test used to diagnose renal tubular acidosis (RTA), in which a patient takes ammonium chloride tablets for three days to reduce blood pH, followed by collection of serum and urine. RTA is classified based on glomerular filtration rate, serum K+, proximal H+ secretion, urine pH, and urinary anion gap.
