| An aerial photograph of a large area, made by carefully fitting together aerial photographs of smaller areas so that the edges match in location, and the whole provides a continuous image of the larger area. Called also mosaic map and photomosaic. |

mosaicIn photogrammetry, an assembly of overlapping aerial photographs that have been matched to form a continuous photographic representation of a portion of the earth's surface. A mosaic may be controlled, semicontrolled, or uncontrolled. A controlled mosaic is one that is laid to ground control and in which prints are used that have been ratioed and rectified as shown necessary by the control. A semicontrolled mosaic is composed of corrected or uncorrected prints laid to a common basis of orientation other than ground control. An uncontrolled mosaic is composed of uncorrected prints, the details of which have been matched from print to print without ground control or another orientation.
