basoplasm

basoplasm

[ba´so-plazm] cytoplasm that stains with basic dyes.

ba·so·plasm

(bā'sō-plazm'), That part of the cytoplasm that stains readily with basic dyes.

basoplasm

A near-extinct nonspecific term for cytoplasm with a high affinity for basic dye(s); basophilic cytoplasm. Virtually no structure or finding described by pre-20th-century microscopists has survived modern investigation, given that the stains were nonspecific, the understanding of cell biology was primitive or incorrect and molecular analysis impossible.
