Žagare

a city in Joniškis Raion, Lithuanian SSR. žagare is located in the northern part of the republic, on the Svēte River (a tributary of the Lielupe), 27 km northwest of the Joniškis railroad station (on the Riga-Šiauliai line). There is a branch of the Joniškis butter and cheese factory, as well as a horse-breeding farm. žagare was first mentioned as a city in 1495.
