Zvenigorod Kievskii

 

an old Russian fortified city protecting Kiev from the southeast; its precise location is unknown. It is mentioned in the Hypatian Chronicle under the years 1097, 1150, and 1151 in connection with an internecine princely war and on the occasion of the battle with the Polovtsy in 1234. Zvenigorod Kievskii disappeared after the Mongol-Tatar invasion in the mid-13th century.
