Żuławy Wiślane
in Poland, the lowland region in the Vistula delta, covering an area of about 1,000 sq km. The Żuławy Wiślane is separated from the Baltic Sea by sand dunes and composed of alluvial sediment. Part of the region lies up to 1.8 m below sea level. Many dams have been built in the region, and there are over 17,000 km of drainage canals. The principal crops grown are wheat, sugar beets, hemp, and vegetables; dairy farming is a major industry.
