Zubtsov

 

a city; center of Zubtsov Raion, Kalinin Oblast, RSFSR. Landing on the Volga River where the Vazuza River flows into it, 153 km above Kalinin. Railroad station on the Moscow-Riga line. There is a mechanical repair plant and a dairy plant. Zubtsov was first mentioned in chronicles of 1216. As part of the Tver’ Principality, it was annexed to the Muscovite state by Ivan III in 1485. Zubtsov became a district city of Tver’ Province in 1776.
