Znamia

(The Banner). a monthly literary, social, and political journal; an organ of the Union of Writers of the USSR. It has been published in Moscow since 1931. In 1931 and 1932 it was called Lokaf (Literary Association of Writers of the Red Army and Navy). Much of its contents deals with subjects of defense. Among the works that have appeared in Znamia are L. Sobolev’s Overhauling, P. Pavlenko’s In The East, Vs. Vishnevskii’s We Are From Kronshtadt, V. Grossman’s The People Are Immortal, M. Aliger’s Zoia, and P. Antokol’skii’s The Son, as well as K. Simonov’s novels The Living and the Dead, No One Is Born a Soldier, and The Last Summer. The journal’s regular sections include prose, poetry, publicistic articles and essays, and criticism and bibliography. Circulation, 160,000(1972).
