Zhurnal Mikrobiologii, Epidemiologii i Immunologii
(ZhMEI; Journal of Microbiology, Epidemiology, and Immunobiology), the monthly scientific journal of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, the organ of the I. M. Mechnikov All-Union Society of Epidemiologists, Microbiologists, and Specialists in Infectious Diseases. Published in Moscow since 1923. It was originally called Zhurnal mikrobiologii, patologii i infektsionnykh boleznei (Journal of Microbiology, Pathology, and Infectious Diseases). In 1930 the journal appeared as two publications— Zhurnal mikrobiologii i immunologii and Zhurnal epidemiologii i mikrobiologii —which were combined in 1935 into the present journal.
ZhMEI was founded on the initiative of L. A. Tarasevich. It publishes articles on the genetics, morphology, and physiology of viruses and bacteria; the theory of epidemiology and immunology; the scientific principles of preventing and eradicating infectious diseases, and epidemic control.
