Batmunkh, Zhambyn

 

Born Mar. 10, 1926, in Ubsunur Aimak. State figure of the Mongolian People’s Republic (MPR).

The son of a poor arat (herdsman), Batmunkh became a member of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP) in 1948. He graduated from the Mongolian State University in 1951 and the Academy of Social Sciences Under the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1961. From 1951 to 1958 and from 1961 to 1973 he taught in higher educational institutions in the MPR; he became a professor in 1972. Between 1967 and 1973 he was initially prorector and then rector of the Mongolian State Universitry.

In 1973, Batmunkh became a deputy to the Great People’s Khural of the MPR. In 1973 and 1974 he was head of the department of science and education of the Central Committee of the MPRP. In May and June 1974 he served as deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the MPR, becoming chairman in June. He was elected a member of the Central Committee of the MPRP in 1971 and a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee in June 1974.

Batmunkh was awarded the Order of Sukhe-Bator in 1976 and the Order of Friendship of Peoples in 1976.
