Zhalauly
a salt lake without an outlet in the northwest of Pavlodar Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Area, 144 sq km. Lake Zhalauly consists of two reaches connected by a wide strait; its banks are swampy. During spring flooding, water flows into the lake via the Karasy River from a group of freshwater lakes fed by the Shiderta River, and Lake Zhalauly becomes desalinated. During extremely heavy drought the lake temporarily fills up with heavy salt deposits.
