Zenitsa

 

an archaic Russian word meaning pupil of the eye or eye. The word zenitsa is found in masterpieces of Old Russian literature and in some poetry of the 18th and 19th centuries. Today it is used mainly in the expression berech’ , kak zenitsu oka (“to cherish as the apple of one’s eye”), that is, to protect or keep painstakingly and carefully.
