Zeia National Forest

 

located in Zeia Raion, Amur Oblast, between the Zeia and Giliui rivers. It was created in 1963 for the protection of the natural complex of the eastern part of the Tukuringra Range. Area, 82,300 hectares (1969). Pine and larch forests with elements of Manchurian flora predominate; above the altitude of 1,100 m there is a belt of cedar ground cover and copses of stone birch with rhododendrons and various high grasses. The forest abounds in elk, Manchurian wapiti, Manchurian roe, musk deer, brown bear, lynx, sable, and Siberian weasel. Native birds include the Siberian capercaillie, hazel grouse, alpine ptarmigan, and three-toed woodpecker. The rivers contain such fish as the lenok, grayling, and sea trout.
