Zeia-Bureia Lowland

Zeia-Bureia Lowland

a lowland in Amur Oblast, RSFSR, between the foothills of the Turan Range and the Amur and Zeia rivers; altitude, 200–300 m. Formed of friable sand and clay sediments, the lowland has meadow-chernozem, brown taiga, and swamp soils with forest and forest-steppe landscapes. Forests in the north are mixed (Daurian larch and Mongol oak) and in the south, are oak with Amur lindens, growing on meadow-steppe plains (“Amur prairies”), which are heavily cultivated. The lowland is the main grain-producing (wheat) region of Amur Oblast. There are coal deposits in the Bureia River basin.
