Zbruch

 

(also, Podgorets), a river in western Ukrainian SSR, flowing along the border of the Ternopol’ and Khmernitskii oblasts. Left tributary of the Dnestr River. Length, 247 km; basin area, 3,330 sq km. The Zbruch rises in the Podoliia Uplands. In its upper reaches it flows through a broad and sometimes swampy valley; below that, it flows through a narrow valley. The river is fed primarily by snow and rain. Its average annual water discharge at the village of Vitkovtsy is approximately 7 cu m per sec. The Zbruch is unsuitable for navigation.
