Zarafshan
Zarafshan
a city (1972) located in Bukhara Oblast, Uzbek SSR. Located in the Kyzylkum Desert on the western slopes of the Tamdytau Mountains, 210 km northwest of Navoi. Population, 17,000 (1971). The city arose in 1967 with the growth of the Muryntau gold mines. There is a metallurgical and mining combine in Zarafshan.
