Zahir Shah, Muhammad
Born Oct. 15, 1914, in Kabul. King of Afghanistan from November 1933 until July 1973.
From 1920 to 1924 Zahir Shah studied at the Habibia and Istiqlal lycées in Kabul, and from 1924 to 1930 he continued his education in France. He graduated from military school in Kabul in 1931. In 1932 he was appointed deputy minister of national defense, and in September 1933 he became minister of education. In November 1933, after the death of his father, King Muhammad Nadir Shah, he acceded to the throne. On July 17, 1973, he was dethroned.
