Yrjó-Koskinen
(also Yrjó Sakari). Born Dec. 10, 1830, in Vaasa; died Nov. 13, 1903, in Helsinki. Finnish historian and politician. Professor at the University of Helsinki (1863–82).
Author of the History of the People of Finland (1869–73), Yrjóo-Koskinen was the first historian who attempted to represent the history of Finland as a unified process. He was a member of the Finnish Diet from 1872 to 1882 and from 1885 to 1891. Yrjó-Koskinen was one of the leaders of the Fennoman Party and a member of the Senate (the government) of the Grand Duchy of Finland from 1882 to 1899. In the late 1880’s he was a cofounder of the Old Finn Party.
