Young, Mahonri MacKintosh

(1877–1957) sculptor, art critic; born in Salt Lake City (grandson of Brigham Young). He studied in Salt Lake City (1897), moved to New York City (1899), and studied at the Art Students League (1899–1900) and in Paris (1901–05). He taught at the Art Students League intermittently (1916–43), lived in New York City and Ridgefield, Conn., and was known for his sculptures of working men, boxers, such as Groggy (1926), and Mormon subjects, such as This Is the Place (1947), in Utah. He also wrote articles and books on art.
