yield point
yield point n (General Physics) the stress at which an elastic material under increasing stress ceases to behave elastically; under conditions of tensile strength the elongation is no longer proportional to the increase in stress. Also called: yield stress or yield strength yield point
yield point[′yēld ‚pȯint] (mechanics) The lowest stress at which strain increases without increase in stress. yield pointThe lowest stress in a material (less than the maximum attainable stress) at which the material begins to exhibit plastic properties; beyond this point an increase in strain occurs without an increase in stress.yield pointA measure of the amount of stress needed to permanently deform a material. When a material is stressed beyond its yield point or elastic limit, it will not return to its original shape and size when the stress is removed. The yield point of a material is slightly higher than its elastic limit.MedicalSeeyield stressFinancialSeePointAcronymsSeeYPThesaurusSeepoint |
