Established: 1936.
Location:West-central Mississippi, about 28 miles south of Greenville.
Facilities:Trails, viewing sites, observation tower.
Activities:Hiking, wildlife observation, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features:Refuge includes and surrounds Swan Lake, a 4,000+-acre oxbow lake which has silted in and contains mature cypress and ash woodlands.
Habitats: 12,941 acres of marshes, swamps, sandy ridges, cropland, and bottomland hardwood forests.
Access: Open year round during daylight hours.
Wild life: Mourning doves, wood ducks, Canada geese, wild turkey, Louisiana black bear, white-tailed deer, squirrel, rabbit, raccoon, and American alligator.
