Wute

 

Bute, Babute (self-designation, Wutere), a people living along the upper reaches of the Sanaga River in the United Republic of Cameroon. The Wute are made up of the Wute, Wawa, Galim, and Suga tribes. Total population is approximately 20,000 (1967 estimate). The Wute language is related to the languages of central and eastern Sudan. Their religion is Islam. Chief occupations are livestock breeding and some farming (cultivation of millet and sorghum) and hunting.
