Balatonfüred

 

a balneological health resort in Hungary, on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, 136 km southwest of Budapest.

Balatonfüred has a moderate continental climate with a mild summer (average July temperature, 22° C), a prolonged sunny autumn, and a mild winter (average January temperature, -2° C). Annual precipitation is about 700 mm. Therapeutic resources include 11 highly mineralized carbonated springs containing hydrocarbonates, sulfates, calcium, and magnesium, whose waters are used for drinking, bathing, and mud therapy. Therapy is indicated for patients suffering from angina pectoris, hypertonic and hypotonic diseases, stomach and intestinal ailments, metabolic disturbances, functional disorders of the nervous system, and allergies. There are sanatoriums, rest homes, a hydrobal-neological clinic, an institute of cardiology (since 1949), a physical therapy clinic, sports centers, and children’s camps at Balatonfüred. The resort is open year-round.
