Ballistic Method of Electrical Measurement

 

a method of determining values of physical quantities by means of measuring the amount of electricity (during a brief impulse of current) proportional to them. The value of the measured amount of electricity is fixed by the maximum deviation (the so-called ballistic deflection) of the mobile part (the arrow) of the measuring instrument (a ballistic galvanometer, a fluxmeter, and others). The ballistic method of electrical measurement is used chiefly in measurements of magnetic quantities (the flow, induction, and intensity of a field), the characteristics of ferromagnets (magnetic permeability and strength, intensity of magnetization, and so forth), inductance, capacity, and so forth.
