worker director a representative of the workforce on the BOARD OF DIRECTORS. These directors may be selected by management or elected by the workforce (all those employed in an organization or all those in a TRADE UNION). Where worker directors are elected the scheme is a form of INDUSTRIAL DEMOCRACY. The rationales for worker directors include the practical consideration that it can promote commitment to and understanding of organizational goals; and the moral consideration that employees should be able to influence the direction of the organization of which they are a part.
