Special Features:The strategic location of Wolf Island made it an important identification point on navigational charts of the 1800s. A Coast Guard lighthouse, which stood on the northern tip of Wolf Island, has long since disappeared into the ocean.
Habitats: 5,126 acre barrier island consisting of a narrow strip of oceanfront beach backed by a broad band of salt marsh.
Access: Refuge's saltwater areas are open to public use, but all beach, marsh, and upland areas are closed to the public.
Wild life: Brown pelicans, loggerhead sea turtles, diamondback terrapins.
