Arvida
a city in southeastern Canada on the Saguenay River. Population, 16,000 (1966). Arvida has the largest aluminum refining plant in the capitalist world (annual capacity, 338,000 tons; owned by the Aluminum Company of Canada). Large hydroelectric stations on the Saguenay River—Shipshaw I and II (total capacity, 1,448 mW)—are the energy base for the plant.
