Wittwer, Sylvan H. (Harold)

(1917– ) agronomist; born in Hurricane, Utah. He taught at his alma mater, the University of Missouri (1943–46), before moving to Michigan State University (1946–83) to teach horticulture and direct the Agriculture Experiment Station (1965–83). An international authority on raising greenhouse tomatoes, he wrote several books including Greenhouse Tomatoes, Lettuce, and Cucumbers (1979). As the only American member of the Lenin All Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences, he consulted to Russia's president on agricultural matters in 1991.
