Windrower, Peat

Windrower, Peat

a machine which gathers dried shredded peat from a spreading into a windrow of triangular cross section for gathering into field stacks. The first simplest models of the peat windrower were made in the USSR from 1930 to 1934. Windrowers have completely mechanized the process of windrowing. They are divided into scraper and pneumatic types. There are trailer and mounted scrapers. The most widely distributed are the trailer windrowers, which work with a crawler tractor in a complex with bunker harvesting machines. Pneumatic windrowers, trailed behind crawler tractors, work on the suction principle. The working parts of the windrower are nozzles connected to settlers. As the windrower moves with the working fan, the shredded peat is sucked up, along with air, into the nozzles and is conveyed through pipes into the settler, where it is separated from the air and moved out by a conveyor through an exit opening, from which it is poured onto the field. Each windrow is formed by the back-and-forth working passages of the windrower.
