Williams New Orleans Literary Festival Williams (Tennessee) New Orleans Literary FestivalLate MarchAdmirers of the work of American playwright Tennessee Williams (1911-1983) gather together to celebrate his work—and that of other southern writers—at the Tennessee Williams New Orleans Literary Festival. The five-day event, scheduled in late March, features performances of plays, master classes, literary tours of the city, concerts, a book fair, poetry and prose readings, and a wide variety of lectures and discussions led by scholars, writers, and performers. The festival closes with a tea party, a play, and a "Stella-Shouting Contest," in which festivalgoers compete to imitate Stanley Kowalski's bellowing cry of "Stella!" as performed by actor Marlon Brando in the movie version of Tennessee Williams's play, A Streetcar Named Desire .
